Dear Friends
Our lovely Sylvia passed away in the evening of Saturday 9th November 2013 after a very sudden and swift decline in her health.
For her last week she was in the care of Trinity Hospice whose support and care were outstanding.
Annabel and Belinda were with her at the end and she slipped away painlessly and peacefully.
She will be very much missed.

    Dear Annabel, John and Belinda,

I'm so sorry for your lost. I only met Sylvia a couple of times at the clinic in Sussex and was touched by her determination and her ability to listen. The world will be a smaller and dimmer place without Sylvia. I only came across her blog in the past week, otherwise I would have got in touch sooner. I wish I'd got in touch sooner ... .

I wish you and your family peace in the days to come.

    Best wishes, Rona

I'm so sorry and shocked to hear that Sylvia has passed away after such a battle. She was a wonderful friend and was and will be in my thoughts. My deepest condolences to all her family and friends. We were Sylvia's flatmates in her lovely home in 1999. I caught up for dinner in Parsons Green in 2005. I last saw Sylvia when she visited us in New Zealand in Dec 07/Jan 08. I will miss her thoughtful Xmas cards, amazing blog and photos.
Love Mel and Greg, from NZ

Sylvia could make anywhere in the world a better place just by walking into it. Incredible to think that this sweet, generous, funny, brave girl is no longer among us. Love and prayers to her family - the picture of S with Belinda on her 40th has me in floods.

Rest in peace Sylvia, after your long and skillful fight. Your clients missed you, you left such a huge emptiness in the department when you left. You were a principled and gifted psychologist; healing came easily to you. Thank you for all the laughs and lighter moments when we pondered on the absurdities of a job we loved. It was an honour to serve in the NHS with you. May your family and friends find a measure of solace in all the love you left behind. Your colleague and friend, Alex

  9. I met the lovely Sylvia a little over 2 yrs ago while I was at the clinic in Frankfurt supporting a friend. Sylvia struck me as a warm, caring intelligent person and I enjoyed keeping in touch these past few years. I was very sad to hear of her passing. What a loss.

I met Sylvia in the Central Hotel in Phnom Penh back in 1993 and we backpacked together around Cambodia and through Vietnam. Sylvia was unflappable throughout the trip despite us being shot at by Khmer Rouge guerrillas and having to endure the hardships of travelling in two desperately poor countries recovering from years of war and economic blockade.

The matter-of-fact attitude she displayed then has been repeated in her blog charting the ups and downs of her treatment over the past couple of years. An inspiration indeed and sorely missed.

    Top girl; rest in peace.

    Graham

This trip must have been just before I met Sylvia in London on her return. A wonderful memory, and, as you say - top girl.

Belinda, Annabel and John, I was so sad to hear the awful news. Sylvia was such a special person, and every person who knew her felt that. I'm so glad to have been even a small part of her life and will miss her greatly. My thoughts are with you all, and I hope the outpouring of warm feeling for her can be some small consolation for you.

What a brave and inspirational women. I was fortunate enough to met SyLvia at the Herzog clinic. She was so helpful and comforting to myself and my wife. I found her blog invaluable as I cared for my wife.

My deepest sympathies to her family

Sylvia trained with us at the University of East London to complete her Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from 2001 to 2004. She also recently completed the postgraduate certificate in International Humanitarian Psychosocial Consultation. These achievements tell us a great deal about her passion and compassion. She was always a pleasure to train and to work with and we feel great sadness at her loss. We know she made a huge contribution to the profession and a huge difference to the clients she worked with. We would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to Sylvia's family, friends and colleagues. She will be very much missed by all of us.

I met Sylvia in Croatia on a holiday a few years ago and thought she was a lovely person. She was gentle, warm and humorous and reading her brave, intelligent blog it feels like a light has gone out. With great sympathy to her family, Charlotte Alexander
